Backstory
Diamanda Greave is an Ul’dah native in so many ways, and an absolute contrast to the ethics of her home state in so many others. Born of Sharlayan refugees fleeing Idyllshire who instead made their home in the city-state of gil and opportunity, Diamanda has grown up in a life of wealth and comfort. Her early years were filled with private tutors, numerous studies and rigorous curriculums of homeschooling and tutelage that took advantage of the girl’s clear knack for the theory of arcane sciences. However, this was not the same as an aptitude for the practice of said sciences, as due to a mutation, curse, or just poor fortune she was born with a severe invisible disability. Her body’s capacity to store and manipulate aether is lacking, to the point that by some opinions she should not be able to live at all. Still, she tried her best. She learned the arts of arcanomancy and goldsmithing, and ultimately began delving into proper magitek and mechanical sciences, even alchemy to broaden both her horizons and make up for what she lacked. By age ten she was well past the point of being called a prodigy, but being known as an adept student was very different from having the capabilities to turn that into something real.Especially when the Calamity hit. That day is not one she speaks of often, and when she does it’s with a tone of mourning and loss. Dalamud’s explosion and the subsequent mega-flare and destruction wrought by Bahamut forever changed both how she saw the world, and how she lived.Suddenly the child was alone, with naught but her wits and what elements of her home she could salvage. Of course, being ul’dah, property rights and such immediately went up, and in a lot of ways she lost access to the ample fortune her parents had amassed. What would follow were years of hard work. Clawing, threatening, even bribing and in some cases outright commercial sabotage to make a name for herself among the artisans and smiths of Ul’dah, and hopefully the world at large. Not just to share her skill, but to use it to improve the world. She is an aggressive advocate for just how much the quality of life for Eorzea, if not the world, could be improved by more rapid acceptance and integration of various forms of technology, often to a point that it gets her into trouble. Now she stands at the precipice, ever interacting with adventurers and slowly drawn into a very different life than what she was planning on, yet one she seems to have long since begun preparing herself for.
RP Hooks
Unhealthily Weak Aether
Diamanda’s aetherial signature is in many ways almost nonexistent, to the point that by some arguments she should be dead. It is completely reasonable for anyone with even a hint of magical knowledge or aetherial sense to be able to note and comment on this.
